food shoot - props are key
When working on food shoots a broad range of props are available including choice of crockery, work surfaces, cutlery, pots, glassware, containers and fabrics (the list goes on!). These enable the 'feel' of the images to be styled and refined to the requirements of the client and the food that is being photographed.
lighting - camera angle - composition
As a shoot progresses different camera angles are tried out along with adjustments in depth of focus (background detail blurred or sharp) that create different compositions and image 'feel' to the shots. The images can be developed further with adjustments to lighting strength and direction, filters and post-processing if required. The examples below illustrate elements of this process and the variety of images that come out of a typical food photo shoot.
